1997 - Trip to Australia & New Zealand

I spent six months in 1997 living in Melbourne, Australia, working for the University of Melbourne as an IT Program Officer in the Office of Student Support Services.  While I was in Australia, I had an opportunity to travel around to see a number of areas of that truly beautiful continent.  I spent a weekend exploring the capital city of Canberra, and attended the 7th Australian WWW Conference in Surfers Paradise

My friend Joe came over from the states in August, and we traveled to Sydney, Brisbane, and the Queensland coast.  We spent several days on a boat cruise through the Whitsunday Islands, and then traveled to Far North Queensland to Cape Tribulation and Cairns, where we went snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. After Joe went back to the States, I continued on to Alice Springs in the Red Centre.  From there I explored Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta, and Kings Canyon, before returning to Melbourne by way of Adelaide.  During my last week in Australia, my friend Jason took me on a drive down the Great Ocean Road.

On my way back to the US, I took a week long detour to New Zealand, where I visited Auckland, Rotorua, and the Bay of Islands.
