Back to work

Friday, August 29th, 2008

With apologies to our regular readers (and judging from our logs, there are a few of you!), I went back to work this week, which is why it’s been almost a week since I last posted.  I left Monday morning for Chicago, and got home late Wednesday night.  Candy had some help from a couple of her girlfriends while I was gone, but only during the day.  The nights were long for everyone.  When I got home Wednesday I let her sleep and I took the overnight feedings.  Since they were each taking almost an hour to eat and then go back to sleep, and eating every other hour, in alternating hours, I only got about two hours’ sleep.  But it was still wonderful. :-)   I worked from home on Thursday and Friday to provide an extra pair of hands for feeding, and Veronica got to participate in her first conference call.

The twins are growing like crazy and eating it seems all the time.  We weighed them this morning, and if the readings were accurate, they’re both about 8 lbs!  We have some more visitors coming tomorrow to meet the babies, so it was early to bed for everyone tonight after a nice bath.

Weekend with Jeannie and Kaitlin & Dan

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

On Friday, Jeannie flew down from Boston and Kaitlin & Dan drove down from PA to spend the weekend.  They were all very excited to meet the twins.  Joe and Monica also dropped by when Joe picked her up at Dulles after coming home from Italy.  On Saturday, we said goodbye to Candy’s mom (at least until the Christening!).  Candy went to a baby shower in the neighborhood, so the girls and Dan and I took the kids for a walk.  Saturday night, we had plans with Kaitlin and Dan to go downtown to the DC Improv to see Mike Birbiglia.  We had bought the tickets ages ago, before we even knew about the twins.  Jeannie agreed to babysit so we had our first night out without the kids, and I only texted her about 6 times to see how they were.  Everyone left this afternoon, and we’ve been spending the rest of the day trying to relax.  Tomorrow I go back to work after 3 weeks of paternity leave, and am flying to Chicago in the morning until Wednesday night.  I sure am going to miss the kids!

Out and About in the ‘Hood

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

The past couple of days have brought gorgeous and unseasonably comfortable weather, so we’ve been taking the twins out to walk around the neighborhood.  This gives them a chance to get some fresh air as well as meet their adoring public.  Our friend Carrie came over on Wednesday morning with her one-year-old Sarah to meet the kids.  It was the start of a beautiful friendship.  That afternoon we walked up to the Brambleton Town Center and the grown-ups got some ice cream.  On the way there we were literally stopping traffic as we came across several of our friends and neighbors who were so excited to meet the kids.

Last night we walked them up to see the last of the summer concerts featuring Gonzo’s Nose.  We sat toward the back so the music wouldn’t be too loud, and it was a beautiful night.  More of our friends came over to meet the babies, who were almost as popular as the band itself.
