Home Sweet Home

We are finally home in Brambleton!

Yesterday morning, we packed up everything at the hotel and headed over to our friend Brian’s in Bethesday, where we were planning to stay for the rest of our time in Maryland. No sooner had we gotten the kids into Brian’s house and fed, and unloaded the car, that we got the call from our social worker that we were cleared to go home. We packed everything back up and headed across the Potomac to the Old Dominion!

R.I.P. Uncle Jack

Today we marked one week that our babies have been with us…and only four weeks since we first learned we had been chosen to be their parents.  It’s hard to believe it’s only been a week.  In some ways it seems like only yesterday we first laid eyes on them, while at the same time it seems like we’ve been living in this hotel forever.  Fortunately tonight is our last night here.  Starting tomorrow we will be staying at a friend’s in Bethesda until we are authorized to leave the state.

Our happiness is tempered today by the news that Uncle Jack passed away last night.  He hadn’t been well for a long time, and I’m happy that Mary and her family were able to see him before he died.  He was always such a wonderful man, and I’m sorry that the twins won’t get a chance to meet him.

Day 7: Good thing we went to Olive Garden the other night…

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

A friend of mine sent me the above cartoon, saying she could imagine Riley and Veronica having a similar conversation in the not-too-distant future.  I love it, but I’m hoping their first words are “Hoya” and “Saxa” respectively.  We’ll have to work with our speech pathologist.

We had a good day today, went to Target to buy some more bottles, and had lunch out at a local Italian place.  After lunch, I went home to do some laundry, check on the cat, and sort the mail.  I was only gone for a few hours, but I missed the kids like crazy.  I don’t know how I’m going to go back to work in a week and a half…

Meanwhile, Candy and the kids were hanging around the hotel, when they noticed some excitement across the street.  There was a fire at the Olive Garden, where we’d gone for dinner two nights ago!
