Day 6: The Adventures of Princess Poopsalot (and her brother)

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Last night was a long one, as Veronica kept me up from 2am-4am.  She has been eating like a champ and had some gas pain, so she and I had some quality bonding time.  At least we had the Olympics to entertain us.  She’s also got a tendancy to only have nasty diapers when it’s my turn to change her.  I think she and her mother are conspiring against me.  Riley’s much easier to change; and I’m more familiar with his, er, equipment.

Today was the first day we really didn’t have anything big planned.  We’re definitely more comfortable than we were a few days ago.  We had to clear out of the hotel room for a while so the maid could clean up (and God bless her for it), so we took the kids out to the Gateway Overlook center where we went to Best Buy and Costco, and then we went out to Pei Wei for lunch.  We were gone for almost 3 hours and they slept pretty much the whole time! They continue to attract admirers wherever they go.  Especially their parents.

A Day With Mommy & Daddy

Day 5: The Twins’ One Week Birthday

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Today we took the twins for their first pediatrician visit.  They are both doing very well, and have almost gained back all the weight they’ve lost since birth.  Riley is now 5 lbs 4 oz (down 1 ounce) and Veronica is 5 lbs 8 oz (down 2 oz).  Everyone at the doctor’s office thought they were adorable, and congratulated us on our good fortune.

This afternoon, everyone did a little napping (including Mommy and Daddy!).  We all needed it since last night wasn’t so good, as the twins got off sync and were eating at different times every couple of hours. Of course, Daddy didn’t help things by yelling in excitement watching the Men’s 400M Freestyle Relay (while holding Veronica).

We took them over to Olive Garden for an early dinner and were there to celebrate at 6:12 and 6:13 to mark their one week birthday!  They’ve spent more than half their lives with us now.  After dinner we took some birthday pictures (below) and Candy and I had cupcakes to mark the occasion.

Day 4: Hangin’ with Nannie and Da

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Mom and Dad came back today, and we took the twins to church for the first time.  They were very well behaved and didn’t cry at all…unlike their parents.  It was so bizarre… the theme of the Homily was making sure to thank God when prayers are answered.  The example that Father gave was of a childless couple that prayed and prayed for a child, only to have their prayers answered with twins!  Well, let’s just say it’s not every day you feel like the voice of God is speaking directly to you.  After Mass, Mom went and grabbed the priest to give a special blessing to the twins and Candy and me.  It was a very moving experience, and a good reminder to be thankful for all the blessings that have been bestowed on us this week.
