Babies’ First Hoyas Game and Thanksgiving

Monday, December 1st, 2008 by Sean

A week ago Saturday we took Riley and Veronica to their first Georgetown basketball game.  They loved it, though Riley fell asleep at halftime (as my friend Matt pointed out, so did Drexel).  They were a hit and we are determined to get them up on the big screen at some point in the season.

That Sunday we set out for our first really big road trip to visit Candy’s family in Georgia for Thanksgiving.  At one point we stopped to feed them at a McDonald’s somewhere in NC, where a man was kind enough to point out that we were “older than most” first time parents.  We traveled as far as Spartanburg, SC (never was a town more aptly named) where we hunkered down for the night at a Hampton Inn.  The twins were really too big to share the portable hotel crib, so they woke up extra early.  After breakfast we continued on and arrived at Candy’s parents’ house right around lunchtime.

We had a great week with them, and Candy’s grandma flew in from Kansas City to see the babies (and the rest of us) as well.  The twins were very popular, and we had visitors each day.  Thankgiving Day we went over to Candy’s Uncle Kenneth’s and met even more relatives.  Veronica was kind enough to have her first diaper blowout on her Daddy’s lap, so she and I had to leave to go back to Candy’s folks’ to change. :)

The Friday after Thanksgiving we visited the Henry County Heritage Park and Veteran’s Memorial, and then took the kids over to visit their Grandma at work, where they were once again a big hit.  That evening the twins had finally had enough poking and had their first real meltdown so we put them to bed early.  Saturday morning everyone came over for a birthday brunch for Candy’s grandma, after which we set out to visit the Hanley’s in Loudon, Tennessee.  We arrived there mid-afternoon and had a great visit with them.  Sunday morning we got up early and stopped off to visit Candy’s great-aunt in Knoxville before beginning the long trek home.  Traffic on I-81 was awful, and what should have taken about 7 hours to travel home from the VA/TN border took more than 10.  We sat in traffic for a LONG time, from around Blacksburg until north of Staunton.  By the time we got home (almost 11pm) we all had had enough of the car!
