Six Months Old

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

It’s hard to believe that Riley and Veronica turned six months old this week.  Though it seems like the time has flown, it is also hard to remember what life was like before they arrived.  They had their 6 month pediatrician appointment on Wednesday, and as suspected, Riley was off the charts — he weighed in at 19 lbs. 3 oz., almost 3 lbs. more than Veronica (16 lbs. 4 oz.).  They had their first solid food on their half birthday too.  They seem to like the rice cereal, and today we introduced avocado, which they also seem to like.  I’m trying to keep the mess in perspective.

On the move

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

January has been cold and long, but if we had to pick a theme for the month it would be “On The Move”.  Veronica finally caught up with Riley and rolled over for the first time on New Year’s Day.  Since then there’s been no stopping either of them.  They’re rolling, shimmying, and slithering all around the place, and it’s only a matter of time before they’re crawling.  The highlight of the month was a party at my office in honor of the Make a Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, where we helped a little boy’s wish come true.  They also fought through their first real cold for about a week and a half in mid-January.  We are very excited for February — the twins will mark their six month birthday, their first solid food, and their Baptism!

December - The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Christmastime is truly more magical with children. We had a wonderful December, and started out with a trip to the mall for a visit with Santa and some family photos. The kids truly enjoyed Santa, but we were disappointed with Picture People. The kids’ individual photos turned out ok, but we never were able to get a good photo of the two of them together.

Riley had a big month, as he rolled over for the first time and had two teeth come in.

We spent Christmas week up in NY with Mom and Dad, though they left us Christmas Eve to go down to Mike and Nikki’s so they could see Taylor, Brooke, and Thomas on Christmas morning at their house. We spent Christmas Eve in NY with Kaitlin and Dan, and then Mom and Dad and the other Murphys came back Christmas Day. The MacDonoughs joined us the following day and we had all seven cousins together for the first time ever.

We came back home on the 26th and Candy’s parents flew in on the 27th and stayed until the 30th. We enjoyed our visit and helped Candy’s mom celebrate her birthday. By New Year’s Eve we were ready for a quiet evening at home.

As we looked back on 2008, Candy and I were struck by just how dramatically our lives have changed.  We are so wonderfully blessed to have Riley and Veronica in our lives.  In a year in which so many people have lost so much, we are greatly humbled by the fact we have two healthy, beautiful children.  God is truly great and we are looking forward with great hope and excitement to 2009.
